College is a pivotal time in students lives. I grew up in church, but it was in college that I really decided to step out in faith and trust Christ with my entire life. It was there I began to understand my relationship with Christ was one that was on my terms, it was safe and comfortable and I started realizing that that is not the kind of faith I wanted to have.
My roommate started dragging me along to this ministry he was involved in called Campus Crusade. It was here that I saw students living a life of faith in a spiritual warzone: Oregon State University. I saw students putting their faith in Christ and stepping outside of themselves. They were lights in the dark world of OSU. I saw this and said, “This is the faith I want.” Itwas a faith that wasn’t centered around me, but was centered around Christ and around others. It has been amazing seeing how Christ has led me, first George Fox, then Corvallis and now He is leading me to Australia.
It is during the college years that students decide for what and for whom they will live. Perhaps the most neglected area of student life is the spiritual dimension.
There are over 110 million college students throughout the world - about 1% of the world’s population. This “Powerful Percent” will produce the world’s most influential leaders. The leadership of nearly every sphere of society comes from the campus. Whether it’s the media, government, business or the Church, today’s college students will lead the world tomorrow.
